Hello everyone!

I'm new to this forum, I apologize in advance for my terrible English, I wanted your help on this apple 2e. It was given to me by a friend and I wanted to put it into operation so I cleaned it and tried to turn it on with the RF signal but I see some unclear and "dirty" writings I don't know what is due to, visually the motherboard is all ok (it also beeps when it turns on).Later, I installed a card with VGA (as you can see in the photos) and there the computer works without problems! I can see the writings perfectly, but I liked to use the monitor of that time to have it working 100% could you help me? I don't know what is due to this defectThank you very much in advance!

You said "RF" but you really

You said "RF" but you really meant "composite video." You also said there was a pic with a VGA card but I don't see that. Are you sure that the monitor works OK? Could it be a faulty cable? The RCA jack where the composite video comes out the back of the motherboard could also be faulty. Try wiggling the cable plug or check it visually for any issues.

.

That kind of distortion could happen when mixing 50Hz (PAL) and 60Hz (NTSC) refresh rates.

You have a PAL machine. Check that you also have a PAL monitor. The model number on the back of the monitor should be A2M2010P (the trailing "P" is for PAL).

The motherboard has a Colour/Mono switch on the right side of the board. You will want to set that to Mono. (That likely won't fix the problem you're seeing, but you will want it set to Mono regardless if you are using a monochrome monitor.)

From the photo of the motherboard, it appears that you have a PAL European model //e.

The monitor looks like an American NTSC monitor.  Are you sure it's a PAL monitor?  That could account for the fact that the picture does not sync up.

Thank all of you in advance for your support!Yes, forgive me, I meant to say composite video exactly, I took other photos, even the VGA as you can see works very well, I also took photos of the monitor model (yes, it is a PAL system, both computer and monitor)Honestly, I tried everything, I also changed the cable but nothing, I always see this type of problem and I also changed the capacitors inside the monitor equivalent to the ones it had (I bought them on the Farnell-Italia website. For those of you who have more experience, is there a video chip or something similar that causes this problem on the composite video output?

(I put the selector on mono but nothing changed)

It's a monochrome monitor with a manual V-SYNC, so PAL or NTSC doesn't really matter. We can see from the picture that it's synching vertically just fine. However it's not synching horizontally, which means that either its H-SYNC needs to be adjusted or it most likely needs a recap. I have a monitor which has the same problem when it has been sitting for a while. However if I let it run for about 10 minutes it works fine, most likely because the bad cap temporarily reforms.

Hello and thank you very much

Hello and thank you very much for your answer!

what would be the capacitor that could create this problem?

I almost changed them all inside the monitor, if necessary I can take a picture of how it is inside

First try adjusting the

First try adjusting the Horizontal Hold (R406) - https://www.applefritter.com/files/Sams%20Apple%20Monitor%20II%20A2M2010.pdf

If it still doesn't sync, leave it on for 30 min and try adjusting it again.

Also do you have a better coaxial cable? I might be mistaken, but what you have there looks like a very cheap chinese one.

Well, you don't need to buy a new one, just make sure it makes a good contact on both ends.
