G'day from Australia,
I have finally got around to building a couple of DAN ][ boards (pcb made 2 years ago), and i have made 2 but Am completetly unable to get the SC CARDS to read.
The boards boot to DAN ][ prompt, and if there is NO sd card, drop into the boot select menu.
But if a place a fat 32 formated SD card, when i hit return, it just sits at DAN }{ and flashes. I am using the ATMEGA and BIOS code from
https://github.com/ThorstenBr/Apple2Card with version 1.1 pcb.
I notice he hasen't reponded to github inq for a while so hoping someone who has experience with the DAN ][
could chime in with some suggestions.
I have used a 2 GB SD Card formatted to FAT32, i have not tied Fat
I am using only TTL components not HC, but it should make no difference i believe. The card flashes the LED's when no SD Card, so I believe the ATMEGA is functioning properly.
I have tried in 2 clones and an original Apple 2E machines to test, same results..
I have not tried an external SC Card reader, that will be next.
Thanks, and any help appeciated.
I have used both "VOLXX.po" and "BLKDEVXX.po" extensions.

Have you gone through the main topic on the Dan ][ controller? (https://www.applefritter.com/content/dan-sd-card-disk-controller)
In my experience, the flash cards are very voltage sensitive. I modified my cards to use an actual 3v3 LDO regulator on their Vcc pins.
The flash card sockets are the most challenging parts to solder; double check those connections with a good magnifying glass.
Also, do the chip select LEDs turn off when it's sitting at the Dan ][ prompt? It is important to get the fuse programming right when you flash the atmega chip, the default boot loader settings won't work.
If you only have one flash card it needs to be in the lower slot.
Might have to use FAT16 format for the cards (I can't remember this one exactly, but the atmega file system code is pretty basic.)
No, it needs to be FAT32.
I looked it up on Thorston's github page. Either fat16 or fat32 should work.

Thanks, i will go back and recheck vasious things. I will try the extenal as the small readers have voltage regs etc on them, and see if this makes a difference.
I'll let you know what i find.

Thanks guys....
Reflowing the SD card socket on one fixed the Reading problem, and the other was a DOA 16Mhz crystal in the end. First one I've ever had. Found I got same behavoir of locking up after hitting enter when i removed the ATMEGA, so figured the ATMEGA was not running. Checked resistance on crystal and it was lower than other board. Replaced and she was suddenly working.
Thanks again.

If you are using extenders, they do have resistors inside and will not work with the default design. I had to replace the R9/R15 voltage divider on the Dan ][ Controller in order to make it work with extenders.

Glad we could be of some help. I have never seen a bad atmega crystal before either- nice troubleshooting. The Dan][ card is a lot of fun to play with (especially if you add the wiznet module.)
