Gaming

OK -- I'm in the mood to have a little LAN party soon. Most of my friends don't have laptops, so I'd have to provide machines - which is no problem, but I need to know what game to play. Here's what I've got:

iMac 350
128 MB RAM
6 GB HD

Beige G3 333
128 MB RAM
two 4GB HDs

Power Mac 8500
233 MHz 604ev
112 MB RAM
2 GB HD

iBook G4
800 MHz G4
256 MB RAM
30 GB HD

-----------------------

My best friend has an iBook as well (G3 600/640/20) that he would bring. I could maybe procure an eMac 700 if need be (hey Chris... :D)...

Someone else has a Fujitsu laptop that he got for Christmas. 1.6 Pentium III, 512 RAM.

-----------------------

The 8500 would probably not be used. I can run OS X on everything else, and would like to find a REALLY good first person shooter.

Let me know what you'd suggest. Also, tell me your stories if you've done a LAN party before (i.e. what equipment, games, etc.). I have a Linksys Wireless B router with a 4port switch that could be used, and I also have a Netgear 5 port switch if we stayed all wired.

Thanks! :macos:

Gaming on the Mac

I would definately say Starcraft. When me and a few friends do our own mini "LAN" partys that is usually what we play. It is usually me on my B&W or ibook, one friend brings his imac, and one person on my friend's PC, and maybe one of my friends uses his powerbook. Starcraft is old, but still fun and will run on any of the machines you have mentioned. As far as 1st person shooters go, it depends on your V-Ram you all have. One of my favorites would have to be Red Faction because the system requirements are pretty low and it is a sweet game anyway. You could always play one of the Unreal games, those are always popular LAN party games. I was actually invited to a LAN party over spring break with about 50 or so people, and i need to beef up my B&W before i go so i can play anything they want to (all PC users, so im gonna get laughed at no matter what i bring). I know they plan to play WarCraft II, Halo, and Unreal 2004, but those are pretty demanding games. If i can think of anymore i'll be back.

Oh, Hazel, look. The field! It's covered in blood

Hmmm...

Quake 3 should run OK on all of those, save perhaps the 8500. Unreal Tournament may work OK, too.

Hey man. I JUST got back from

Hey man. I JUST got back from playing some mad Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 at a lan place. What a coincidence.

Anyway, Unreal 2004 won't run on anything but your iBook and my bro's eMac, but I thought that Quake 3 was just as fun. I think that's what we should play. We'll have your DV iMac, my DV iMac, my iBook, your iBook, your G3, and my 9600. So that's 6 people. Cool.

Games, Games, Games!

OK...

So I think I'll run with Quake 3 for now. We can run it on both iMac DVs, my beige G3, my Bondi iMac, and both iBooks. Now for people to invite... and where to find the game...

OOH... do we need a machine to be a server? The 8500 or 9600 could do that nicely.
