Trying to get a LC575 m/b to work with OS 7.5

Hi folks. I've done alot of reading around the various CC pages on upgrading my CC with a motherboard from a LC575. I managed to get the 575 motherboard working in the CC with OS 7.1 installed (had to update 7.1 with the system update 3.0 first). Now, as I understand it, I can use OS 7.5.x in the CC with the LC575 m/b without having to do any soldering or modifying of the logic or analog board. (i.e. OS 7.5 will work at 512x384 pixels)

However, now that I have updated the hard drive to OS 7.5, the CC will crash on startup with:

Sorry, a system error occurred
"System"
bus error

blah blah blah
/

How do I get around this?

Thanks

IIRC, you need to do one of two things:

1. Do a small modification to the LC 575 motherboard, or
2. install a specific but elusive System Enabler, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

I'm sure Stuart knows the answer to this off the top of his head. Stuart, you wanna help me out?

Instructions in the CC FAQ

There are instructions in the CC FAQ, but Chris Lawson took it down the other day (Stuart posted a note about it). Thankfully we have the internet wayback machine

Doh!

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I had successfully added the System Enabler 065 (v 1.1) and got the LC575 motherboard working successfully with OS 7.1 (system update 3.0).
After updating to System 7.5.1, I made sure that the System Enabler was still in there (same version still) but now the CC is refusing to boot.

Hope that clarifies things.

(Incidentally, Chris is considering re-instating the FAQ)

System Enablers aren't helpfu

System Enablers aren't helpful with 7.5.x - but you'll have found that by now! It's a case of 'logic board hack' or 'screen res hack', apart from ResEdit, about which I know nothing!

Yeah, the ResEdit hack is rea

Yeah, the ResEdit hack is really easy. If you can access the archived ccfaq pages Stuart refers to, the procedure is in there.

Basically, you just modify one number (change it from "10" to "21") in one resource in the System File. Or at least that how it works under OS 8.1.

But again, everything you need to know is in the faq.

Thank you to everyone for all

Thank you to everyone for all your help.

Just two more points I'd like clarified please.

1. The ResEdit hack and the logic board modification do essentially the same thing: allow use of System 7.5 at 512x384 pixels ?

2. If I were to do the logic board mod to allow use of System 7.5 at 512x384, would I have to reverse this if I wanted to do the analog board mod at a later date to get 640x480?

thanks.

Reborn of CC

Hi,
I reply this topic just because I've made my Mystric CC start up again yesterday.
Thanks for all had given me advice. I've tried 8.0 and 7.6. Finally I formatted the HD and moved the universal system folder (7.6) on my PM 6100 to the HD of CC. It works! Weeks ago I've done the same thing without formatting, and it failed. I did not know the reason, but I'm happy to have a working, cute small Mac in my room. A working Mac is better than a "high-tech" furniture.
Besides, I've used Appletalk to install Chinese components onto it. and it appeared good.
Thanks.
