This can't be good- fan not running

I just did a reformat and reinstall of Win2k(retail copy) on my Armada 1500c, and since the install completed the laptop's fan hasn't turned itself on once. It does get a bit warm down the bottom, but no more than say a PowerBook 1400, still- anyone think this could be an issue? Or does it just not think it's warm enough for the fan? Before the reformat it was spinning all day every day...

I'm willing to bet..

That it just isn't hot enough. Re-installing an OS is not going to kill a fan in the time that it takes for an install. To test it, Use Seti at home, and check every once in a while and see if it comes on after, say, an hour. If it doesn't do it under heavy use, find another fan.
Hope it works out...

The problem is that I can't tell if it's hot enough for the fan to run... it never feels hot, just kinda warm. Even with the iTunes visualizer running for 20-30 minutes... nothing. But it could be hot on the inside...hmm.

If it's not very hot on the outside, it's not very hot on the inside. Remember, laptops couple their internal heatsinks to the casing in order to disperse the heat fast enough. You'd know if the laptop was running hotter than it was supposed to...and besides, many BIOSes (desktop and laptop alike) have overtemp safeties built in. If the temp goes too high, the machine simply shuts down.

Ive never seen a laptop that

Ive never seen a laptop that didnt have a hardware controlled CPU/system fan. or at least it was controlled by an option in the BIOS(if the comptuer froze, the fan wouldnt run at all or would run non stop) but i seriously doubt it would be messed up by an OS install.

Ahh well, run something like prime95, if THAT doesnt start the fan running, then you may have a problem. i would check in the device manager then. as you might actually have a software controlled one that doesnt have its drivers installed :o

OK false alarm... :P it got

OK false alarm... Blum 3 it got extremely hot today and the thing kicked in as soon as the computer woke from sleep and sucked so much voltage through itself it sounded like a passenger jet taking off. So... it works. I'm just a little too paranoid about these Pentium/Celeron-powered things(the desktop heatsinks are MASSIVE!).
