ok im looking for some other operating systems besides M$, Mac, and the basic Linux distros.
i came across MenuetOS and SyllableOS0.
i want SkyOS but i cant get it without a beta tester's memership.
im gonna look into BE/OS
anybody know of some other operating systems that are fun to screw around with?
what about other OS's that run on PPC besides Be/OS, YD Linux, and MacOS?

I believe there is a BSD variant that runs on mac hardware.

You can't buy BeOS new anyway, the company is long dead and bought out by Palm. There are bootable CDs available for NetBSD and OpenBSD. Net will work with nearly any Mac, though there are a few exceptions like NuBus & 601 based PowerMacs and IOP based 68k Macs (Q900/950 and IIfx). Open works with about the same list of 68k Macs, but skips all OldWorld PowerMacs, and begins support with the iMac. Any PowerMac from B&W up and any laptop from G3 Firewire and up can run OpenBSD.

For MenuetOS - it's quite stupid, but someone waste a lot of time with it and I just had to try it. I've tryed the floppy version on my 90Mhz laptop. It's running quite fast on it. But it doesn't look very usable. For me only MS Windows is good enough for day-to-day activities. But however your choice don't end only with Be, M$ or Linux. You should check out QNX too. Also if you want a free windows check Wine - It's a linux distro which runs windows apps (still not perfect). There is also AtheOS (but I don't know does it run on PPC)and many other free OS-ses. You can go with BeOS Developer's edition. It was easier to set up than any other OS I've used.
