IIc monitor question

So I've been messing around with my IIc lately and usually use a TV or my 8500 with it's RCA inputs in the back for a monitor. But when I load the Apple systems utilities and what not to move some stuff around on other disks it's almost impossible to read the text...any ideas on how to save my eyes?

40 columns

There's a button above the keyboard for switching between 40 and 80 columns. Make sure it's on 40.

IIRC, there was also a specia

IIRC, there was also a special plug-on adapter for the IIc that allowed it to use a television at the proper resolution. It's been a long time since I've dug my IIc out of storage, and an even longer time since I've had it connected to a TV.

I find

I find the text easier to read on a B&W display. Perhaps turning the color off on your TV will help as well?

IIc Monitors

Any B/W or Composite monitor will work with your IIc.
For ease on the eyes you might try scouting up an old
yellow-charater mono-monitor such as a Taxan or AMDEK.
IBM also had composite B/W and RGB monitors and these
will also work. You can use the same RCA-type co-axial
cable that you would use for an Apple monitor.

Check out the thrift shops and Salvation Army stores.
You might even find an old Tandy B/W monitor that shows
white characters on a black background. (I have one of
these as well.)

40/80 Column

I just figured this out on my IIc, my 40/80 column button doesn't seem to have an effect, but if you hit Esc+4 or Esc+8 it switches back and forth between 40 and 80 column.

80 column text

The problem that you are encountering, as hinted at above, is caused by the fact that the system utilities (in ProDOS) takes advantage of 80 column text (versus the 40 column). A TV's resolution isn't good enough to display 80 column text. An Apple issued monitor from the Apple][ era would do the job.

$35. . . ?

I'll give you $35 plus shipping for it. You did state that it works, right? However, you can get a lot more for it on Ebay. I just don't think that they worth what they were getting for them, when you can get a color LCD monitor (low res but fantasticly clear for a //c) for about $150.00.

it does 40/80 col and the col

it does 40/80 col and the colors come out in shades of grey but the screen looks squashed because the screen is approx half the size vertically than a regular monitor
