It may just be mine, but on the AlPB when the sleep LED in the screen release-catch comes on, the release catch becomes magnetic. The brighter the LED gets, the stronger the magnet gets, which makes me think there is a problem with the LED wiring that turns something inside into an electro-magnet

No, but if the wiring wrapped round something, even if it was vaguely turning round, it might be enough
My iBook's sleep LED makes loud noises when it glows, the brighter it gets, the louder the noise, but I don't think it makes a magnetic field.
Does it affect the sleep mechanism's magnetic catch?
Is this a problem? It sounds pretty cool to me.
The latch has a permanant magnet which would overpower any tiny magnetic effect from the very-low-power LED circuit. And I do mean tiny. I'm sure someone here with some actual scientific training could do the calculations. The LED's current usage is sooooo small any magnetic currents induced would be nearly impossible to detect, especially compared to that great honkin' perm mag right there.
I am curious though how you detect "The brighter the LED gets, the stronger the magnet gets"? I'm not discounting the possibility there's something to what you've observed, just that the LED is probably not the cause.

It's probably the magnet that pulls the catch from the top half when closing, nothing to worry about
