Increasing storage space

Hi i have a slightly old whit 14" 500MHz Power PC G3 with a 9.37 GB Toshiba MK1017GAP HD. I am running OS 10.3.2 and i am rapidly running out of space on my HD. I heard that its possible to put a bigger HD in it but that its a real hassle to do and not werth the time or risk. Is this true and if so are there any creative solutions to my problem. Bear in mind i am a small engines mechanic and I am open to attempting a HD swap (if it is advisable), i have also thrown together a few pc towers so I have some basic skills.

Manual

Get the apple service manual and see if you think you're up to it. If you can't find it send me a PM - I think I might have it somewhere

Cost should be low - it should be a standard IDE drive. Theres some limit on the size (137GB I think) due to the controller but a cheap 120 GB or 80 GB drive should work fine

If you more carefully read the initial post, it seems to me that he has an iBook. In which case, he's limited to 80GB (because that's all the larger notebook HDDs come). I understand that it is indeed difficult to replace the drive in one of those machines, but not as hard as with the clamshells.

Screws

As long as you keep track of where all the screws go when you take it apart, it isn't too horrible. It's not for the faint of heart by any means, though.

AFAIK the limit is 128gig on a non 48bit bus ... but seeing he does have a powerbook then the largest notebook HDs are currently 80gig ...
