Toshiba 0.85 inch HD

CNN article states that Toshiba has completed the smallest HD ever.

Article with picture is here.

Right now, they are at 4 GB. If they increase the size to 100 GB, the next laptop designs are going to be very interesting. Not to mention the next iPod designs, the next Palms, the next cell phone, etc.

Oh, and now they are small enough to fit in yer head, so you could do the whole Johnny Mnemonic thing! I can't wait! I've wanted that job sice I first read it.

The Price is Right, NOT!

They're still probably about $300 for just the drive, so it'll be about 3-4 years before miniDV will start to feel some competition.

What's an expensive 4gb HD good for?

I doubt you'll see any in laptops for quite a while. They're too expensive and and aren't big enough. For about half the price you can cet a 60gb 2.5" drive which is equal to about 15 of those drives.
When they get up to 10 times as big you may see them in camcorders. Right now that 4 gb is about enough for about 15 minutes of video.

Think Implanted

Taken from The New York Times, August 24th, 2018-
Apple Computer announced today that it would be offering implants of its iPod digital music player. The FDA has approved the procedure, and CEO Steve Jobs is excited. "For the first time," he said, "people will able to carry their music literally anywhere, even when they are taking a shower. And since the iPod Implant works through cochelear implants, the user does not have to use headphones. It is an entirely self-contained digital entertainment system."
The implant is placed in the buttocks and wires are strung up the spine to the cochelar implants. The unit is powered by a power plug located...
