Dead ibook logic board..

I have a dual-USB 500/66mhz logic board which seems somewhat dead.. when stripped from frame down to just the board + heatsink, DC board and plugged into an external monitor and USB, shorting the power switch does the following:

1) Provides USB power - MS Intellimouse glows red
2) Quiet, high pitched noise from one of the components in the power distribution area of the board
3) After a minute or two, the heatsink becomes warm to the touch
4) No video sync on external monitor

Has anyone seen this before and if so, do you have any suggestions regarding repair? Everything seems to be physically intact. I don't /need/ to repair it, I have plenty of other macs, but I wouldn't mind having it around spare...

However, it won't boot from either Firewire or IDE Sad
