Got the book today!!

WOOHOO!!

First impressions:

Great pics, lots of information but it doesn't talk down to you like a lot of EE books do.

I haven't read it all, but I read a good portion. A little smaller than I thought. But I imagine that is because the goal of the book is to teach you how to assemble the kit with some extras like programming and basic electronics.

Very impressed so far and I will be posting a positive review on Amazon.

Got the New Book Today

I've glanced over it and I think every hacker on Applefritter.com should have a copy. And absolutley every Apple-1 owner, Replica owner and Replica dreamer needs this, too. It's the BEST book on this subject I've ever seen! Well written, informative and entertaining. I can't wait to finish reading it. Thanks, Tom.

Nice book

I bought the book and read it trough, I find it quite nice, but I wes left where I was before, how do you get the firmware into the chips?

I bought everything and made my board based on the designs described in the book, (theres a little mistake on the video schematic, it's +5v)

Also, I found out that TTL oscilators are hard to find here in mexico,
so I used a 7400, a crystal 2 capacitors and a resistor, it seems to work.

Briel Computers

You can buy the video IC, PS/2 IC, and ROM from Briel Computers for $30.

Alternatively, you can download the firmware files from the file library here, but then you'll need an Atmega programmer, which will run you a lot more than $30.

Hey Tom;
Been a long while since I posted anything on "Applefritter". I too, pickup your book at Barnes & Noble(they actually had a copy on their shelves). I started to read and thumbing through. WOW! I impressed. I been itching to use my new cordless soldering iron. Lucky I'm old school. I would love to see PC builder build a computer from scratch.
