You can read dos format floppies on Macs, I think.
You also can format floppies in DOS format on Macs for PC readable.

Gamba is a very useful site for Mac users who like to muck about around under the hood. There was an unwritten rule - or maybe a written rule - on Applefritter 1.0 to not post direct links to sites that may contain licensed software or documentation. "Google for Gamba" was a common battlecry.

Anyhoo, since Gamba's link on this topic goes to someplace else, I'll post that link Right Here and also Here and it should tell you everything you need to know about making Mac disk image files on yer PC.

* and a bonus anecdote for you 'old timers' out there...
Back in the 8-bit days, I remember meeting up with a few friends, and the one said he had an opportunity to get a copy of Visi-Calc. I was wondering why this was so exciting, when he told me "I think it's some sort of adventure game!"

MacDrive

The MacDrive program should do what you want - or wanted. See http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive6/ for info. I have a copy - probably an earlier version - because I was trying to overcome problems with filenaming. It didn't really solve my problem. In the end I discovered that always using Stuffit to transfer files between Macs and PCs generally keeps the file names.

Mostly I don't care whether floppies or Zips are in PC format - as the Macs usually read PC media. Having MacDrive does enable Mac formatted media to be used on PCs, and it should also be possible to format media in Mac formats on PCs using it.

What it does is OK, but make sure you really need it before spending the money.

go to my site: www.applema

go to my site:

www.applemachome.com/ and click on hosted sites. I host a mirror of mac gamba in case it ever goes down.

Great mac resource, and I cant believe someone actually posted the site name without being banned! Blum 3
