Wow. Last time, when we were throwing out old garbage from our companies cellar, I stumbled over that fantastic piece of technology, stuffed away in some corner. Original packing.
Ok. So far so god. Grabbed that box, replaced all batteries in it, started it up... works! The crashes every now and then DO annoy me a little bit, guess there is something wrong with the software. But I wondered about one big thing: How do I shut down / power off that thang??? Anybody had experience with the Newton? There is some sort of switch on the left side, but I can't pull it down all the way, and when I try to pull it down as far as it goes, nothing happens...
That switch on the side is the on/off.
I just repaired and sold a 120, and the switch on it was really sticky when I got it. I opened the Newton, sanded any edges on the switch plastic, and lubricated it with a very small amount of plastic-friendly grease.
They're easy enough to take apart to check the switch.
He, that was fast... thanks for the disassembling procedures, i'll tear apart in the next days and see if i can get that switch working. By the way, do you know if there was a kind of sync software bundled with the message pad? I didn't have any diskettes or cd's in the original packaging.

Judging by your signature, though, you may not have an older Mac with a serial port. You could use the Acer to install programs using a third party program.

Yes, you are right. At the moment I don't have any older Mac to connect to. But I got 2 old Powerbooks this weekend, not sure which models, didn't have enough time to figure that out
But as soon as possible I'll take a look at them, the donor said that at least one should still work...
