Oh No, i might have lost my data.

i have an iBokG3 with puny hard drive space, i tried using my Maxtor 160GB external hard drive on a windows XP operating system. It didn't show up in the 'my computer' menu (like other external hard drives), but said i need to install software. so i did and it still didnt work! The phrase would you like to format this disk now appeared so i quickly said no and ejected it. decided to burn lots of cd's instead. upon returning to my mac, the hard drive is not recognised, 'would i like to initialise?'->no thanks, would prefere to see it in the finder menu, with all 75GB of borrowed cd's and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd series of family guy in it, not to mention all my lecture notes i really need for my finals coming up soon.
If anyone has any help which will end this terrifying experience with me not losing my data and not having to spend any money?!? I would be in your eternal debt, granting me a life full of music!
Many thanks
Henry

norton...

or try norton utilities for macintosh (if available). check the disk with disk doctor first, if that won't help try nortons volume recover tool. seems that some of the first sectors or the file allocation table have been erased by windows, so i think you will have a good chance to get your data back (no guarantee on that...).

ah...

sorry, but i guess there is no real cheap solution if you want good software. but nevertheless you could google around for one, maybe there's something we don't know about. Wink

yes...

...it is free, but it's not for apple, it's windows based. that's the point. sorry!

btw, file inspector only works for pc based filesystems, fat16/32 and ntfs.

regards, chris
