ok, so.
i have a kenwood turntable, and an average reciever with a tape deck in it.
i hook the two up and the tape deck never records right.
i also have a portable stereo that i tried hooking up through the receiver to the turntable and it still doesn't work.
what am i doing wrong?

... on how you're hooking things up. With most stereo equipment, there are lots of different input and output jacks, and it's easy to get confused as to what connects to what.
Can you describe in a little more detail what is being hooked up to what?
Can you describe the effect more? Distortion? Too quiet? It could be a number of things.
Does the turntable have a ground wire, and if so, do you have it attached to the receiver, and the other two connectors plugged into the phono input? Some turntables don't output a proper line level, and need to go through a pre-amp before going to your tape deck.
Another possibility is recording levels. How are you setting them, or can you even with that deck? You should be aiming for peak levels of about +2 or +3 DB.
