A long dead Mac Classic briefly shows signs of life.

Hello.

Many years ago, I regularly used a Macintosh Classic. Then one day (probably 95 or 96-ish), it pretty much died. Flipping the on switch merely resulted in a blank screen and a light, repetitive clicking noise, from what I assume is the hard drive.

Last night I was rummaging around my basement and came acorss the Classic. As a lark, I decided to plug it in again. I flipped the switch, expecting the same old clicking sound, but was greeting with a startup "bong" sound. I couldn't believe me eyes as I watched the old thing boot up like nothing had ever happened. Eventually, the desktop popped up.

I scrambled around, looking for a mousepad. When I returned...pffft. Same old black screen, same old clicking sound. I was heartbroken. It's been doing the same thing ever since.

Does this sound familar to anybody? Is there anything that can be done?

I'm not sure how to disconnec

I'm not sure how to disconnect the hard drive, and I don't have a boot disk, nor do I have any immediete means to get one.

What's the easiest way I can get a boot disk for a Mac Classic?

D/L OS

Hey,

Go here:

Also, you can boot the Classic from ROM by holding command-option-x-o at startup. It'll boot from 6.0.7 to 7.5.5 from a boot floppy.
