not really a place for this...

Anyone have a lombard and want to make it look like a prototype? You think there might be a market for this?

I just got ahold of a TON of proto lombard plastics and parts... but no whole machines. i don't want to post them for sale here or on ebay until I know if there might even be a market for this sort of thing.

Let me know if it sounds appealing and I'll take some photos this evening to show.

Cool!

I haven't even got a modern PB yet, but I'd just LOVE to get my hands on a set of proto-plastics for that inevitable point that PCI architecture 'Books begin to approach my hackability price range.

I know the geocities pages suck for images. I'll UL it somewhere else soon. I am on crappy dial-up until we finished getting moved.

Nice

I'm drooling. You have to document all of that stuff.

As for selling it, if the 5300 stuff is clear I'm interested. Same with the 520 body. (looking at the AF copy w/ description)

Primo stuff and _super-collec

Primo stuff and _super-collectable_. If you have clear 'title' to that pile of parts you've got yourself a very valuable haul. Serious Mac collectors go nuts for clear plastics, with all the exclusivity of their prototype rarity. I'm talking about the sort of buyers who can pay $25K for an Apple 1, that sort of market.

My advice would be to slowly sell off what you don't want bit by bit. So few parts of such wonderful quality appear in the marketplace that the high-end collectors will kill each other to get their greedy hands on each piece.

Damn! I only dream of having such a pile! Sigh . . .

Dan K

PS: I do have one each Hooper (3400c) and PB YYY (540c), but those are just pre-production engineering samples, not true prototypes.

clear 'title'?

What do you mean by a clear 'title'?

It was given to me by my ex-boss who got them from a friend of his. They were just taking up room in my ex-boss's garage and he thought I might have the mac knowledge to sell them off for him and find a good "market" for them.

I suspect some person down the lines of his friends must have been a designer at apple. Two of the prototypes had business cards taped to the bottom. I don't know if it is good to keep that identification on them or not. I know Apple employees are not supposed to be involved in the sale of this stuff. I have no connection to the person whose name is on them. It isn't my boss or his friend's name. *shrug*

I guess these things just get passed around since they aren't supposed to be sold by Apple employees. I have no idea really. I'm mostly just trying to do a favor for my boss and his wife (who wants the garage cleaned out). hehehe

Hmmm . . . your tale confirms

Hmmm . . . your tale confirms what I sort of imagined. I don't think Apple will come after you for those old parts you've got, but I'd bet a large part of what little $$$ I have that it all still legally belongs to Apple. You clearly already know about Apple employees not being allowed to dispose of 'this sort of thing'. Normally all that stuff would have been destroyed once it had done the job it was created to do.

Not that I'm suggesting you give it all back to Apple you understand. Smile It's just that it's best if one understands and is aware of as many of the angles as possible.

I'm still not clear if your boss _gave_ them to you outright, or if you are selling/disposing of them _for_ him?

for him

I am supposed to sell them FOR him.

I just get paid a measly hourly rate for cleaning, packing, listing for sale, researching... I wish I got a cut though... after seeing what those Paladins went for.

I have no idea where they originally came from. Neither does he as far as I can tell.

bug? ... bug? ... thats a feature mate Wink ... not that i added it ... of course Wink

when you are uploading an image there is a popup called "Personal" ... if it set to "disabled" (default) then the image wont show in your gallery ... setting it to "enabled" will make it show up ...

alison ... ive edited that image for you ... it should show up now ... i think ill change the default behaviour of that button to be enabled rather than disabled ... save confusing new people (or old people for that matter) Wink

see the wanted section

Take a look at the ad I posted in the wanted section!

I'll trade simple prototype plastics for 5300 or 101/Lombard complete systems (working or non-working).
