I have some files marked as 'archives' (although I think they're compressed), made in 1993. Now I can't remember what I used to compress them - it was definitely on a Mac. Anu suggestions!

any number of utils can determine that for you, resedit for example.
Have you tried drag-and-drop onto Expander BTW? Modern Expander (v5.5 and up) can handle most any archive type you throw at it.
