ADB cable as S-Video cable...

Am I the only one that didn't know you can use an old ADB cable as an S-Video cable?

I'm not sure what the difference in quality will be, but that'll save me some cash!

last time I used one

it was reeeaaallllyyyyy horrible quality. It made a "color" snow on the 32" tv I had from either my iBook, or my standalone DVD player. I have used about 4 different ADB Cables. I would suggest if you are going to do a home theater, spend the $10 and get an S-Video Cable, or if you are in a fix, or want to go for the novelty, use the ADB

Will it go the other way as well? Will an S-video cable work in place of an ADB cable? I know i've got several 6' S-video cables lying around (came with assorted video cards), and it'd be nice to be able to use one to extend the keyboard/mouse reach.

Using an ADB cable in lieu of an S-Video cable is an old-school trick. It dates back to the late 80's, when JVC introduced Super VHS (SVHS) and S-Video.

Yes. Both ADB and S-Video cables use 4 pins, and are interchangeable. Keep in mind that some S-Video cables are of higher quality than ADB cables, so if you use an ADB cable for S-Video, the signal may not be as good as if you used a proper S-Video cable.

Would using a curly one pick up more interference?

same quality

I use an ADB cable to hook my TiBook to a TV and it works fine, and the quality is not different than a $7 S-Video cable that I have.

The only difference between a

The only difference between an ADB cable and an SVideo cable is that the ground pin and the shell are connected together on the ADB cable, and the ground pin on an SVIDEO cable is not connected to the shell. The only problem this causes is some devices don't detect the cable being plugged in and won't switch to it.
