WHAT IS THIS? PM 54/5500 & 64/6500 video (output? mirroring?) connector question...

(pictures to follow explanation) For the longest time, I've never been able to figure out the last little thing I've needed to fill up my PM6500's motherboard... I used to use these things way way back when I was in middle school (and was actually the reason I bought one a few years ago, nostalgia ;_; *sniff*), but they never had the "thing" in question... I've tried to find info on it, but don't know what it is I'm looking for. At one point, I was almost certain I had figured out that it was a connector to mirror the onboard video via both an RCA-video and S-Video cable... but, since I didn't know how exactly to search for it or specify (like on eBay), I still never managed to find anything.

In the two provided pictures, I've put an arrow pointing to the area in question... one is to the empty connector on the motherboard, and the other is to the position for it on the back faceplate.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated... I'm trying to figure this out, so I can finalize this motherboard. Put the fastest upgrade card (the 500mhz g3, as opposed to the 350 I have now), max ram to 128, and get whatever the heck that little thing is in there; and then this is permanently going inside a Color Classic. I'm slowly gearing myself up for a big PM9600 upgrade project, so the 6500 no longer needs to be the bohemuth tower it once was... it has served its purpose and will always hold a place in my heart, but its time to move on.

Also, whatever the heck this mystery thing IS, if someone has one they're looking to get rid of, I'll take it off their hands... I planned on posting that in the looking to buy forum, but I figured I'd wait until I knew what it was I'm looking for o_o

i have a 5500

when i was i high school ('99 grad), we had a room full of 5500 (the nostalgia is the sam reason i have one now) with all the video hardware you have and need. there were about thrity of these 5500's in this room and theyu were all used for our graphic design / video class. we made movies and all sorts of fun stuff. we used avid video to do the editing and exported to vcr.

i believe you are correct on the video out via rca/s-video. i think i have seen these units for sale at sunrem.com they have used parts and systems. but keep checking them periodically because they can be pricey.

peace and love

from having one

a PC Compatibility card that is, There is a internal Video connector for the PC Compatibility card that fit into it. It is an A/V Port. You can get a DB-15 (I think that is Apple's Video Connector) that will output to another Monitor. I think I have one. Ditto on the PC Card, and the Adapter that went to it. So, it is an A/V in/out port. these were designed for a number of video options, but I don't think it was limited to S-Video and RCA.

EDIT: I Really think apple had it in mind for external Monitor. As I had the option on my 5400 with the same port used for it. Let me know if you want this little doo-hickey and let me scrounge it up

Focus Ehancements

I also have a 6500 that has the Video in (SVideo/RCA Jacks) but on the output side it has a card called Focus Ehancements with one SVideo and one RCA out but it plugs in to the same place and mounts in the same area

There are two different compo

There are two different components ou can get for that video output.

One has an RCI and S-video output plugs, the other has a Mac monitor output that morrors the onboard video signal. I have both if you are interested. The monitor kit is new in box.

Here's a pic of the monitor output. It goes in one of the PCI slot holes. The A/V output goes in the empty hole you have an arrow pointing to.

I appreciate everyone's respo

I appreciate everyone's response, as it has given me a better idea of what I'm looking for.

know both my options, I think this is what i'm trying to get:

I'm not worried so much about mirroring the display to another monitor; I'd rather have the ability to put something up on a tv.

The composite/ svideo...

The composite/svideo adapter is not all it cracks up to be. I will no say that it is horribl, I had a terribly fun time hookingmy machine up to the tv and palying wolfenstein 3d, i would highly reccomend it.
