Mac Os 9.0/9.1 for Classic PowerMacs (5xxx/6xxx) - Not G3/G4 iMac, eMac etc.

Greetings!

As the title states, I'm looking for a version of MacOS 9 (9.1 preferably) that will run on my 6500. I actually have MacOS 8.1 on it right now, but the compatibility with newer software is somewhat scarce and I'm ready to give PPC-native software a shot. Hope there a bunch of decent offers out there! Cheers again!

The biggest problem may lie i

The biggest problem may lie in the RAM requirements. I couldn't update my own 6500 to 9.x until I had at least 64 MB in the machine (I eventually upgraded to 128 MB -- the max for that machine).

Unfortunately, those 5V EDO DIMMs are rare, expensive birds! Don't even try SD-RAM -- the machine won't recognize it and I burned up the RAM trying.

Mem requirements

I'm aware of this, heh. OS 9 is a memory hog on PowerPC machinces what on the 68k type computers OS 8 used to be.

One can actually strip (disable) unnecessary extensions and make the memory footprint of OS 9 as small as OS 8 without actually losing functionality, gaining performance as well (from what I've heard anyway). I'm proud to say that I have 128MB installed, therefore I'm looking forward to running OS 9.

P.S.: Purchased software now, thanks guys!

64mb EDO

Unfortunately, those 5V EDO DIMMs are rare, expensive birds!

They go for about $7 on eBay these days, even cheaper if you watch the auctions. I got a pair for $5 a couple of months ago.

You can use regular old FPM 5 volt DIMMS. I have been using FPM DIMMs in 54-6500's for a long time with no problems.
