Please reply to THIS post or "add another comment" and DO NOT reply to the follow-up post I make after this one. That way I can edit in some piccie links at the top of the thread.
TIA,
jt :ebc:
p.s. T.O. this ineditability nonsense has gotta go . . . or how about a "time based" lockup of a couple of days minimum if you've just gotta do it this way. Sporadic highjinks of a few rotten apples couldn't be nearly enough of a problem to require initial postings here to be so onerous a task, IMHO.
. . . only about $2 or $3 worth of well worn paper single's thickness remains of the original case plastic between the file-thinned CD case "wing's" side and the unblemished rear case's surfaces.
. . . and the unmodified Main Battery is still removeable!
WOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
It's by no means finished, I just stopped lowering the last portion of the "shelf" clearance/support for the "wing" of the already modified 1400 CD from the BabyPB/2300c hybrid so I can take at least one "in progress" piccie. I'll probably just finish those finicky razor saw cuts and put it away until after the move. There'll be some serious structural hacking to do and the connection adapter probably won't be a simple mod . . .
BUT IT'S WORKING!
jt
p.s. Piccies will be posted ASAP.
p.p.s. now I've just gotta find an extra "e" to wedge into the title . . . :ebc:
its a default "feature" of drupal ... not something that TO has added ... it might be easily hackable to not happen ... ill have a look

Can't wait to see the results and how tos, I know I've got a 5300 kicking around that would really enjoy a CD drive...
. . . a few unretouched calibration shots anyway, I'll post some more later.
* . . . or whenever I get around to it. * :ebc:

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It just couldn't be a tighter fit and still work! Well done. :coolmac:
Wotcha got planned for the front plastics? Will the CD be integrated enough to look like it was stock?
. . . the right size and color? I've never actually seen a 3400, AFAIK. I'd been thinking of melding the 5300 FDD cover and the 1400 CD cover until you asked. Anybody got a cheap spare blank or CD cover for a 3400?
Thanks for the compliment, e! Now I can get some sleep, nobody'd commented about the piccies until you did, neither here nor at the barracks.
thx,
jt
Yessss!!!!!!!!!!
If you spin the amputated feetlet 180 degrees, it inserts from the bottom. Lop about 3/16" off the support "shelf's" height and it'll match the stock switchblade-feetlet onna'other side. Procure anotler left side feetlet as a replacement, mod that one and then all should again be symmetrically simpatico!
Not only that, but there's a (soon to be custom fitted) storage compartment waiting right there for it under the CD's "wing" so you can . . .
:? . . . erm? . . . take a little bit longer to lose it?

If you've got some extra space around the winglet, how about keeping it free for a non-standard pram battery home?
On all my PBs, the original prams are dead, so here and there I've subbed a desktop pram, or a kludge from a couple compaq mobo batteries, and worked my best to find space for them - not so bad in the 1xx series, but pretty tight in the 520.
...unless you have a nice source for pram batteries, in which case this is moot.
I like the word 'moot'
. . . don't mind the popped seams, I need to do major structural revisions. The CD blocks two of the three KBD bolts and a good portion of the frame stiffener is just GONE!

The PRAM batts will go under the CD wing, if they don't fit, the plan is to do what you suggested. I'll use NiCads and a resistor on a 5v line for trickle charging per Dr. Bob's instructions in one of my ancient threads.
