This is the complete pictorial guide on how to edit a first post.
To edit a first post (a first post is the post that you enter to begin a new message thread), look fo the Edit tab at the top of your post. See the follwing image:
Rule of thumb:
The Top post has the Edit hyperlink at the top of the post. All subsequent replies have the Edit hyperlink at the bottom of the post.
Actually, you know what? That Edit tab is not there. What gives?
I just opened one of my blog entries and there it is, big as life. You can't of course edit others' follow-up posts, but the initial post in a blog thread remains editable.

I could have sworn that there was an Edit tab at the top of posts outside the blog area, as well. I guess not. I must admit, that's a wee bit funky.
No, that makes sense, doesn't it? It wouldn't be fair for anyone to be able to go back and change their original thesis if others have already responded to the original.
I was thinking more for grammatical and display changes. Say you were to include an embedded image in your original post, and after having submitted the article, you realize that you had the syntax wrong and the image doesn't display. In such a case, you would have no way of going back and correcting the error.
It's not so much about changing the content, it's more about fixing errors that you didn't notice until it was too late. Look at my first post in this thread, for example. There are a couple of really cruddy looking typos that I would love to be able to correct. Alas, I can't.
Or do as I do, start a thread with a small intro, then immediately reply with the thread's meat. That way when you inevitably screw up that post(well, I do do at any rate
), you can go right back and edit, at least until somebody replies to it. That usually gives you at least 5 or 10 minutes minimum to review for editables.

Good workaround dan. Just noted my blog first entry *is* editable after others have replied, but not forum entries.
