pc ati 9200s flashed to mac are being sold on e bay. is there any way to force the mac firmware to install on a pc version of the 9200? I've tried the process with ati's standard update (august 2005) - seems to go but then the card remains untouched. How do I force an install?
thanks

flashing ati 9200 pc video to mac
I'm wondering if PC video cards will work with a Mac running Linux. I know that there are Linux drivers for the PC video cards and that there are Linux distros for the Macintosh... So, I'm wondering if you could use unflashed PC video cards in a Macintosh running Linux.
Probably not, x86 architecture is very different than PPC. Some (very few, don't ask me which) x86 cards contain both firmwares already, but those are/were uncommon.
Damn, I had a url for a great web site/forum that covers all PC->Mac video card flashing, can't find it just now though (bookmark might be on another Mac, have to check . . .)

Yes but you have to do it from a PC with a PCI video card. There is a DOS utility that I've used that will blindly flash any file you give it as input onto the card.
Do you have the ROM files?
i don't have the rom as a seperate enitity - only as packaged in the ati update. I do have a celeron so the DOS utility would be welcome. How do I retrieve the ROM or is it available at some website?
thanks for the response.

Here's the website dankephoto is probably thinking of:
http://strangedogs.proboards40.com/
It includes a nice primer on flashing here:

My adventures with flashing are here (there's some more links in this thread): http://www.applefritter.com/node/8247
My Radeon is still sitting in a box unfixed.
