basic user questions around switching to mac

I recently switched from PC to Mac, and am using a PowerBook G4. Am learning my way around ok, enjoying my 'Apple' key, but have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone around here can answer:
1. Is it possible to getmy Mac to treat the edges of my screen as boundaries so that documents don't slide off the screen? In other words, a bit like the Windows maximise function, where the edges of the doc meet the edges of the screen and i don't have to constantly go fishing around for them. Any ideas?
2. Another question: does my PowerBook have a version of a 'delete' key? And how do i 'page down' and 'page up'?

Any other super-useful tips about using my Mac would also be appreciated! Thanks.

welcome noob!

first of all, a warm welcome to you so beloved ex-windoze user. i appreciate your interest in apple's finest products like the g4 powerbook... :o

sounds like some kind of advertising, so let's stop that bulls**t.

now for question nr. 2:
delete key = apple + backspace
page down = space
page up = shift + space

question nr. 1:
nope, not a singe idea... sorry.

For my iBook, PgUp os Fn-UpAr

For my iBook, PgUp os Fn-UpArrow and PgDn is Fn-DownArrow. Space only works for this in certain programs, and not always when in a web browser.

alright

could be you are right on that... only have my G5 and the alu PB, space works on both in all webpages (as long as you are not filling out forms of course!).

but thanks for the tip, will try it next time!

what about point 1, is there anybody with news on that? would be interested in such a solution too...

thanks all... all suggested shortcuts seem to work (except shift space). Still interested in whether anyone knows about question 1.
cheers

Are you using Tiger ?

If you are, then take a look here:

http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/expose/

If a document should slide off to the side, you can bring it back again, or from under a stack of open windows....

wireless mouse battery life

What is the average lifespan of a pair of AA batteries in a wireless mouse? Mine just died after a mere three months of use... Is one supposed to switch off the mouse when not using the computer? Any advice on this?

my experience

a friend of mine has bought a third party wireless mouse and keyboard for his pc. the batteries in the mouse have to be swapped every 3 to 4 months, depending on which batteries are used. so i think 3 months is not that bad, if you keep in mind that the batteries which came with the mouse might not be the freshest ones.

my acer featured a wireless optical mouse and a wireless keyboard made by chicony from the beginning when i took it out of the box. batteries last for about 6 to 8 months, keyboard is now up and running with the same batteries since 2 years !!!

It highly depends on use too.

It highly depends on use too. The more you use it the longer it stays out of "sleep" mode, thus using power. Also, brand of batteries make difference depending on Ah specs and chemistry. Of course, getting three months use from a pair of $2 batteries sounds like fine usage to me. Smile
