Which PSU for 6500 motherboard in 6360.

I have a 200MHz 6360 (6400 motherboard) running as my webserver, and I'm pleased-as with the machine. It's doing just what I need, sitting there quietly serving - but with one glaring hole in its potential reliability - I have no spare PSU!.

I think.

6360s themselves are a right pain to get hold of in .au, and I've read that you can't use a 6300/6200/630 power supply to run a 6360/6400 board, due to the lack of a voltage regulator to give power to the PCI bus (forgive me if I messed that up, I do know it's a power/PCI issue though) but I've read 6500 motherboards don't have such problems, and can successfully run on one of the earlier PSUs. Since I have a 6500/300 motherboard coming in a few days to replace the current 6400/200 board, would that mean I now have access to my 630 and 6300 power supplies in case the one in the 6360 itself goes south?

I do remember reading about other peoples' experiences here, but like all good ignoramuses just ignored it as it didn't concern me at the time Smile

You can do the 3.3v regulator

You can do the 3.3v regulator hack that the CC modders do. Though the 5500/500 will run without it, they won't run PCI cards well. If you add a card to it, you'll surely want the 3.3v hack.

Aye, it was me - quite a neat catch, considering I've wanted every piece from the auction for a while now.

Here's hoping the 6500/300 works fine with the existing Linux install on the 6360. They're a pain to reinstall.
