Toshiba Tecra 8200

I just erased the hard drive of this Toshiba Tecra 8200 laptop. Windows ME only gives me display choices of 16 colors and a resoultion of 640x480. I downloaded the driver from Toshiba, and it was no help. Anything can help. THANK YOU!!!!

are you 100% sure that it was

are you 100% sure that it was the right driver? I had the same problem with my Dell CPi, i had to get like 6 different drivers before it worked.

They only had one driver.

They only had one driver to download and it said that it was for Windows XP, I thought that I would give it a try. It displays the driver name in the Windows display settings, and it even displays that it is a 1024x768 display!

The driver maybe isn't fully

The driver maybe isn't fully compatible with Windows ME then - is there not one available anywhere other than Toshiba's site for your grpahics card that says it's for ME?

Altenatively, you should run 2000 or XP on that laptop - ME is terrible in comparison, and you're more likely to find modern drivers for 2000/XP. What OS did it come with when it was new - if it shipped with 2000 rather than ME, then they wouldn't have made any drivers for ME.

Shipped With Windows 98 SE

It shipped with Windows 98 SE. My dad got this off of a friend and we do not have the restore CD's.

Generic driver

Hunt out a Windows utility that can identify hardware. Follow that up with a search for a generic Windows 98 driver that matches your video hardware. It sounds as if Toshiba have pulled drivers for Windows 98 (an obsolete operating system when it was delivered...) because it is no longer a mainstream OS. A generic (ie designed for a laptop using the same video chipset) driver should work fine.

Drivers *are* on Toshiba's site.

If you go to Toshiba's support site and apply various filters to the available downloads you'll see a Windows 98 driver. Use that. It's a lot more likely to work then the XP version.

It's sort of stupid they don't link that under 98SE and ME as well, but eh.
