I THINK, now i'm not sure but I THINK he's saying the machine is trying to boot itself to the open firmware and if I am correct he wants to know how to stop it from doing so.

I think...

it is just booting into firmware and not booting the OS. I.E. It stops at the white text screen without loading the OS First

type "mac-boot" without the q

type "mac-boot" without the quotes to get it to boot to the OS, and then when it starts up, choose the Startup Disk/Startup Disk X Control Panel, and choose your hard drive, not the one that looks like a rom chip.

this happened to me on this machine in the past. my OF (version 3.1.1) says at the top of the screen to type either mac-boot or shut-down.

now, i cant find the OF option at all, so I dont know what happened.

btw, I assume you are running OS 9. if your running X, I dont know.

hope this helps.

Open Firmware

Perhaps boot ino open firmware...

1. Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
2. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
3. Press Return.
4. If prompted for your password, enter it and press the Return key. It will respond OK.
5. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: set-defaults
6. Press Return. It will respond OK.
7. At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
8. Press Return.

Best Wishes,
David
