AppleShare+ 6.0.8 all on floppies?

So I've got this Plus, right Smile

And I've got an Asante SCSI -> Ethernet adapter on it....

and I'd like to, for reasons of both coolness and pleasant silence, run it using only floppies.

Now the question is, can system 6.0.8 install and enough stuff to support an Asante SCSI->Ethernet adapter, and AppleShare all fit on an 800k floppy? I've got two drives... but I don't think I can boot over both Blum 3

My plan is once the machine is booted and can run appletalk, I'll connect up to my linux machine over ethernet and load my programs, files and so on.

I know that 6.0.8 has a little trick where you can switch to a different boot folder while the system is running... will that work for networked boot folders? Will that help me run Multifinder? Blum 3

maybe you could put the system in a ram disk. Net booting would be slow if you were going to use the local talk ports. or you could get an scsi-> ide adapter -> cf adapter and find a way to mount it in an old external hd case.

RAM disk would work

My second Mac was/is (still have it!) a HD-less 2 x 800K SE with 4MB RAM (RAM which cost me $35/MB!!) I would load up a system to a 2MB RAM disk and reboot to that. Worked a treat, though it was a bit kludgy and took a bit of time to do all the loading o' the RAM disk and stuff to get it going. I even used an early version of AOL with a 1200 baud modem (which I bought at TCF!) to connect to the 'net, such as it was back then.

In fact, IIRC I bought my first shareware product for this setup, the RAM disk setup thingy, the name of which now escapes my memory. Hmm, I can't recall if I used sys 6 or 7 . . . sooooo long ago.

A useful tool I'd forgotten about: Font/DA Mover.

It allowed me to free up a couple of hundred kb of disk space. Now all that remains is to see how big the drivers for the Asante EN/SC are.
