VNC From Windows To Mac

Oh no, I swore.. (using the "Windows" Word) But anyway - i would like to VNC from Windows to MacOsX - I was using OSX VNC - But dont like it as it leaves a Icon in the Dock at the bottem, I want no evendence that the VNC server is running on the mac - to prevent it from being closed down. Is there a way i can either run it as a Server when the mac starts or somehow hide the icon? It would also be nice to be able to VNC the mac when nobodys logged onto it. ~Thansk in avance

What version of OS X are you

What version of OS X are you running? If you are running X.4 you can use the built-in VNC Server.

I believe in osx above 10.3 you can turn on apple remote desktop in the sharing preferences and it acts as a vnc server.*edit* doh beat me to it.

It is running..

it is running OSX 10.3 - But i tried that, you need "Apple Remote Desktop" or whatever it is called. But funny enough - thats only for macs! I can get OsxVnc to start with the user, but if i go to file--> start as service it never works for some reson, But i dont like it starting with the user because of the Icon it brings in the dock. Is there a Config File i can edit that will let me start it as a server?

Happy to inform that you are mistaken!

But i tried that, you need "Apple Remote Desktop" or whatever it is called. But funny enough - thats only for macs!

the Remote Desktop sharing setting can be set for a vnc client to connect (>10.3), but its not set that way by default because VNC passwords are sent in the clear.

System Preferences/Sharing/

yes, activate Remote Desktop... but then... stay with me here...
click on that button on the right that says "Access Privileges"

In the screen that appears, click the checkbox next to:

"VNC viewers may control the screen with password:"

and enter a good password.

If you don't see this stuff, you are not up to date. Software Update should catch that, but if not, try installing this

(I think that's it... it gets confusing because what Apple calls the 'client' is actually the server, and what Apple calls the "Admin" is really a client)

Good luck!
