We've all seen the Tronbook at one point or another, so how difficult is it to obtain one of those clear palmrest like the one on the Tronbook?

impossible. Extremely short production run, coupled with how rarely they show up on ebay, coupled with how high things like that get bid up almost immediately make for a piece of hardware you're not likely to own ever.
wow, such is life.
are they expensive to come by? how much would you pay for it if you found one?
How hard would it be to mold one yourself? Could you melt down some plexi into a molt of the origional?
damn hard, if not impossible.
a pro would have to take a mold of a part so large as the palmrest. it's expensive too, but you and other ibook owners could all chip in since one mold can make multiple casts. that's a consideration.
I would definatly chip in if it were for a 600MHz 14" iBook.
It's definately possible; I've read about a Japanese group of 2400c owners that put their money together to make a limited run of custom case parts for their Powerbooks. I don't think that there is the same kind of dedication for iBook parts here, but it's possible.
