Here's something I worked on this weekend. I'm pretty satisified with how it came out. What do you all think?
As soon as my webhost (grr, darn hosting company is drops offline more often than AOL) gets back online, there'll be more on my website at http://www.alksoft.com/projects/blue_paddle_wallstreet.html
Sorry about the resolution of the image. This UI is really hard to use...
Peace,
Drew
Okay, the website http://www.alksoft.com/projects/blue_paddle_wallstreet.html is available now.
Peace,
Drew
The workmanship on this hack is good, however... bright blue? Just my opinion, but, you've taken an elegant looking machine and made it look lake a $10 child's toy. You've got the skill, thats for sure... but i dunno about the color choice or the garish PowerPC text across the screen back.
A new take on the Wallstreet. I really like the PowerPC on the front. The most important thing about external modding is that the end product speaks to the owner, not anyone else. The quality is great, and it gives you a unique Powebook!
Very nice looking, Drew.
Keep us posted on how the Krylon holds up. I had chipping problems with it, but older desktop plastic may be different from Powerbook plastics.
Looks like an interesting Pilsner, too.
PS - I changed your image to a clickable thumbnail
Thanks for the positive comments, everyone!
I have two thoughts on the coloring.
First, I was really imagining an Asian import tuner car when I pictured how the PowerPC would look on the lid. I think a white banner background with blue text would have looked pretty slick. As it is now, I'm thinking about filling in the text with a silver color.
Second, there are only a handful of Krylon Fusion paint colors to pick from. Nah, the blue isn't really the color I wanted, but it was the closest I could find. I really wanted something closer to that "Atlantic Blue" that Dodge has - it's a blue metallic color... Nevertheless, the blue isn't terrible in my eyes, and it's actually grown on me some since I started the paint job.
I actually really like the color of the RedBook 5300 I've got on my site http://www.alksoft.com/projects/RedBook_5300/index.html. The red is dark, almost maroon. I would have picked that color again, but that would have been somewhat unoriginal. Plus, the big old PowerPC logo just cries out for "Hot Rod" modder colors like blue and white.
@eeun: For what it's worth, I haven't noticed my RedBook 5300 chipping any, and it's been painted red since 2004 or 2003. It doesn't get a whole lot of use, though. Most of the time it's tucked away safely collecting dust. Thanks for helping out with the image!
Peace,
Drew
