i got my IBM laptop back annnndddd...

hiya, i'm back, yeah, it's been a while, i know, but...

i recently got my IBM 760E back, and the accompying duo dock *i think that's what it's called* ne ways, the scuzzi adapter won't start someitmes, and i have to activate it manually through the control pannel, well, it's running 98 SE, 64 MB of ram, and a floppy, no cd, xcept for the 1 on the duo dock, so, i'd like to have some documentation on it, so i can hack it, so i can put a 266 processor, and supporting mobo, still working on it....oh yeah, i installed a *ISA* yeah , i kno, their old...well, neways, WalMart Connect won't support my built in 33.6 IBM Mwave *or so it says on the bottom of the laptop*, well, i put in a Earthlink III, it has a reg. networking phone looking plug hole, and a plug that looks like a joystick plug, i think it's an external modem plug and a wireless antenna looking plug, it looks like the female side of a coax cable.

And i installed an ancient ISA modem i had, i don't know what speed it is, or have any drivers for it. so.....98 says it's a LT Win Modem, i have no clue what that is, or what kind of driver that would take, so ....here i am, i have a GIANT, OLD, paperweight *and the rubberish paint stuff's coming off around the edges and on the corners, oh well, i just need drivers, and a little more hacking experience, but i'll just have to work on it.

so on the IBM 760E, i have
133 MhZ processor *genuine intel*

Re: i got my IBM laptop back annnndddd...

hiya, i'm back, yeah, it's been a while, i know, but...

oh yeah, i installed a *ISA* yeah , i kno, their old...well, neways, WalMart Connect won't support my built in 33.6 IBM Mwave *or so it says on the bottom of the laptop*,

The IBM Mwave is a soundcard doing double duty as a software-based modem.

well, i put in a Earthlink III, it has a reg. networking phone looking plug hole, and a plug that looks like a joystick plug, i think it's an external modem plug and a wireless antenna looking plug, it looks like the female side of a coax cable.

3Com Etherlink III, a pretty nice network card for the time (still one of the best ISA ones). From the sound of it, you have the combo version. All three ports are ethernet ports, just for different kinds of media- the one that looks like a phone port (RJ-45) is for a normal 10Base-T network, the "joystick plug" is actually an AUI port for connecting an external ethernet transceiver, and the "antenna-looking" plug is a BNC connector for a 10Base-2 (ThinNet) connection. Only one can be in use at a time.

And i installed an ancient ISA modem i had, i don't know what speed it is, or have any drivers for it. so.....98 says it's a LT Win Modem, i have no clue what that is, or what kind of driver that would take, so

A Lucent Technologies WinModem- another software based modem. With the drivers installed, it should act as a normal v.90 modem. Drivers are available from Agere at http://www.agere.com/support/client/modem_drivers.html

Hope that was some help...

hiya, thanx!

hey, thanx for the site! btw, do u think that a 133 mhz intel processor would support it? or would it act like the max it could support? cuz a good buddy of mine told me that it would only support a 33.6, which would be ALOT better than the 14.4 hayes data/fax external i'm runnin with! *hopefully* yeah, i think that's it...

thanx again!

AAAHHHH CRAP!!!!

ah cheez.....well, it's given all heck! well, 1st off, i can't find the ports that the ISA use, 2nd, it's not seeing the Lucent Tech. Modem, and the Ethernet III card. Dunno, i'm lost.....

my brain hurts......well, the scuzzi adapter is "activated", so it's working w/ my laptop, which means, my CD works. and my sound won't work. I followed the directions on the website, extracted the file, and restarted my laptop, well, the device driver file is in there, meaning, i can select to install a LT Win Modem, but, i can't find a com port to use......i have...real com port, which my hayes modem is plugged into *it's external*, well, apparantly, i only have 3 more virtual infrared com ports, an real lpt1 port , and 2 virtual infrared lpt ports. I still don't have any idea.....

my brain itches......... does anybody have ANY IDEAS??? i really don't want to throw away this great christmas presant. That...and i want to get some parts, and hak it too a 233 w/ compat. mobo. and, xtras if poss. which would make it like a IBM 780, or somthin.....oh well, we'll see.

please, i need feedbak asap!

thanx

Hmm... I think I'm not famili

Hmm... I think I'm not familiar enough with any of the specifics of your hardware to try and debug remotely.

Question... how's your PCMCIA slots? I need to look, but I might have spare 56k modem and network cards, if that would help.

why you don't use the integra

why you don't use the integrated Mwave ? I have 760CD and it works fine. You should have a connector in the left side of the laptop just under the tv in/out plugs. And xcuse me for not understanding ,but do you want to upgrade the laptop's integral processor or I'm wrong. Cause if it is true ,yes there are laptops with upradeble processors ,just like my Chicony ,but 760 is upgredable only with replacing the whole cpu module (which costet A LOT ,and nowadays is just unfindable ).The sound drivers for the mwave (am I wrong or your sound it's not working) could be downloaded in the IBM's site az three self extracting floppy images ,but if you don't want to lose time I could send them to you ,just give me email. And for the old ISA modems you should look for jumpers for port settings on the pcb.

P.S. It isn't called Duo Dock (that's the powerbooks docking station called) the docking station for IBM 760 is called Selecta Dock.

well......

well, i would use the mwave, but...i think it's shot, i've done just about everything i could think of to get it to work, and....guess what......it wouldn't... *except taking the blasted thingy apart*

well, i've tried reinstalling the drivers too...that didn't work eiteher, so i'll prob. just get a 33.6 ISA card and slap that in the selectadock *sorry didn'tknow the name..* um.....well

i guess that's it, oh yeah, got the sound working again tho.....i'm confused arent the mwave, and sound card the same card on the 760 E's ??? if anybody has any help, it would be GREATLY appreciated. I thinkl that's all though

also.. i formated the HDD, and installed 95 w/ USB Support, we'll see if that helps, it just got fininshed, so....i'll update yall later!

Here ,download the drivers fr

Here ,download the drivers from www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q1=mwave+760&uid=psg1GCOR-3AKHSL&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=en . With them you'll have your sound and Mwave modem working.

unfortunately....

i'm afraid that i can't see, when i started it up, i held F8, and ran the utility where it checks everything, we'll it's all ok, except for the DSP thingy.....i guess that's the mwave board huh? well, i get three errors when i put it on the dock, but when i start it up undocked, i don't get any errors

sorry, i don't know what it was. and i am still not sure ,but i think that it's bad, unless that's not possible, but i'm not sure. if ineed too, i'll just ebay for another modem card, and get a buddy of mine to sauter it in.... well see, i think it's busted tho...

if i have to, i'll just get an external 33.6, instead of the 14.4 i'm using on my laptop.

Hi ,if you have disabled the

Hi ,if you have disabled the serial port and the IR port on your laptop ,the MWAVE modem will not work in the docking station. Here is the solution : http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=0&q1=docking&q2=760+docking&uid=psg1LWIK-3WLQRN&loc=en_US&cs=utf-8&cc=us&lang=en . If you want to see the full list of problems with the 760s and the docking stations go to ibm.com click Support and downloads , then search Techicall support write "docking 760 docking" (strange huh) in the tab and click submit. This is all you need.
