I'm running a linux based server at home which I can connect to with ssh. For some reason, when I try to connect to it with my pb 1400 running MacOS 8.6, the connection window opens, then closes. Any suggestions, because i need this for port forwarding.

and yes, I can connect to it with ssh from another computer on the internet. so the server is configured right, as well as the server.
