XP Burning Software - needing 2¢ from all

I'm in the middle of a nightmare migration. New, craptastic, Dells. I oblitereated the preinstall (XP 64), and used my own (XP 32, only so I could more easily keep track of keys... 1 site license easier than 50 individual). Migrated users are already asking for a burning program (its been, like, a week... uuughhh).

The preinstall, of course, came with Roxio software. LOVE Roxio on Macs... despise it on PCs. Blew it away.

I am looking for some free (not shareware/commercial)
data/picture/music/video CD/DVD burning software that is well-behaved, with a clean and not incomprehensible interface, and doesn't make a complete f-ing mess upon installing. I realize that the standard on the Windows platform is that every software installer seems to install a bunch of crap you neither want or need all over everywhere, but I'm holding out for GOOD software. I know its out there...

I need you guys... thx.

I've been using the craptasti

I've been using the craptastic free Roxio on my pc because I haven't found any easy to use complete burning software. Nero is the best, but too expensive. I'm sure someone knows of a free one.

free Roxio complete?

I didn't think the free Roxio software was complete... I thought it had some annoying limitations. Honestly, it's the interface that turns me off... but if it will do data/picture/music/video, I'll need to reconsider it (once I get some suggestions to compare it to). Thanks.

I use the Sonic record now that came with my ThinkPad. Granted it's not nero but for what I need it works great.

I don't think that it is free though.

XP has native support for CD

XP has native support for CD writers right in Windows Exporer, and users can burn audio CDs through Windows Media Player.

If you need advanced burning options, Nero is a decent program, and not too expensive IIRC.

cd burner xp pro

I second.
Crappy-ish interface, great functionality.
Kinda like the VLC of cd burning software.

Buy a LG CD/DVD Burner and it

Buy a LG CD/DVD Burner and it will come with Nero 6 or 7 OEM edition. This edition should work on most drives. Currently, I have used Nero 7 LG OEM to burn to Pioneer, LG, Liteon, TSSCorp and Mitshita drives. Most optical drives are now made from about 2-3 companies so OEM editions are not as locked as before, it used to be that older OEM bundles would only work with a specific drive.

The Nero edition it ships with is Express/Essentials. It uses a wizard based GUI to allow users to burn image file, data CD's, audio cd's and more.
