should the ram show up 512 in info after upgrading

Ok. I have a Powerbook Wallstreet. It had 64 mg ram. I upgraded with 2 /256 ram chips on lower and upper slots.

Now it shows only 128 mg.

What's the deal? Where is the other ram.

Thanks

It's not being addressed . . .

Hey,

The machine isn't addressing the RAM correctly. I had a similar problem with an iBook and a Lombard. A 256 was read as 128 by the Lombard and 256 by the iBook. So . . . is the RAM matched? Is it the correct speed for the machine? Is it installed correctly?

Is it showing 128mb total RAM

Is it showing 128mb total RAM, or 128mb each stick?

If it's showing 128mb each, is this a high density/low density case? I don't know, does the Wallstreet recognize high density RAM in full? What does Apple System Profiler say now about the RAM?

256 ram

I read that the Wallstreet was suppose to be 128 mg max when new but other people have upped it to 512 over the years. I guess maybe because of the smaller chip design over the years.

What I see is 128 max. I don't understand about the high density ram.
Is there a low and high?

thanks

Low-density RAM has chips on both sides of the stick. High-density RAM has chips on only one side df the stick.

The high-density/low-density issue only arises when dealing with sticks of 256MB or larger. Certain logic boards are not able to see high-density RAM: my Lombard, my tray-loading iMacs, my B&W G3, my Yikes! G4, and your Wallstreet included.

If you try to use high-density RAM in one of these machines, one of three things will happen:

(1) The machine will not boot
(2) The machine will boot, but will not see the RAM stick
(3) The machine will boot, but will only see half the stick

If you're using 2x256MB of high-density RAM, and only seeing 128MB total, my guess is that you're seeing instances (2) and (3). Try looking in Apple System Profiler and see what it shows for each stick.

You've changed topic, so you

You've changed topic, so you might as well have made a new thread.

But to your question, what kind of OS 10.2 install disks did you use? Were they install disks for an iMac--usually grey in color--or some other machine? or were they the retail version with the Jaguar, leopard-like skin?

OS 10.2.8 slow booting upn ??????

OK. I finally made the leap to OS 10 on my Wallstreet G3. HOwever, it takes forever to load and then when it does the screen goes black until I touch the dimmer switch to +. (?) I have no idea why.

Is this a common problem and reaction to OS 10 on a Wallstreet. If not, what should I do to trouble shoot.

Thanks
