I absolutly love this maqchine, and I recently took it from a paultry 10gb 4200 RPM HD, to a capacious 80gb 5400RPM HD. However, once I got the thing all together, the sleep light is messed up. Instead of the cheery little white dot, it's got that, plus some light spilling out to the bottom case. Did I reassemble it wrong? I have no screws left over, so it's got to be something with the bottom case. Do I really need to go through the prying nightmare again?!

When you are putting the screws back in for the EMI shield, one should hold the small board that has the sleep LED in place. It should be the one right in the front center where the LED should be. I recently took my G3 partially apart and noticed the LED board hanging wrong and fixed it before I finished putting the bottom case on.
right, i'll pull it apart tonight to check that, but I seem to remember placing a screw on the LED board, but i'll double check.

The prying shouldn't be that bad, once you get all the screws out, just start at the part in the battery compartment where the plastic is thinnest, pull that out (you can do it by hand if you try) and work a screwdriver or spudger in there, then just pop it all the way around.
alright, I fixed it. the board was in there crooked. I lined it up straight, and screwed it down. I tested it before I reassembled, and it works!! there is no more light spewing out the bottom case anymore. Now it's like brand new.

Go to your local music store and get a couple of Fender Medium and Fender Heavy guitar picks. I use these to separate the iBook's bottom case from the top case. They work like a charm: just the right combination of flexibility and torque, at a fraction of the cost of Apple's infamous $10 Black Stick.
thanks, i'll look in to that, as I am sure I will need to pry my case apart again, when my 80gb HD fills up, dies, or I install a combo drive. Right now, I use a precision flat head screwdriver, but it's starting to make nicks in the casing.
