Can the members please post opinions on this pc and operating system?
It is the Everex gPC and the gOS operating system.
PC link: http://www.everex.com/ and the operating system is: http://www.thinkgos.com/
It looks interesting for $199.00 Linux box at Walmart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7754614
Thanks.
I think the combination might rip a tear in the fabric of space time, not to mention make me barf.
For the money I'd consider wiping the gOS and dropping on a regular Linux install. $199 is just about at build-it-yourself prices and you can get a really nice Linux distro for a free download. Heck, a cheap RAM upgrade to 1GB (via a cheap 512MB DDR2 DIMM) would make it much better. Of course it's also a Socket 479 chip, so if we found out the chipset it might also be possible to swap out a better CPU - but that's a lot more cash. I thin they are making too big a deal about how efficient and environmental the C7-D is. It's a CPU and chipset, sure it can make a difference, but if that's the difference that swings a person to the C7 over another low-power chip, oh well.

I'm becoming a fan of the BSDs (I've not tried the NetBSD, yet). FreeBSD makes me happy, if the hardware won't run it, NetBSD only requires a bit more work.
heck id buy that just for a chat/browser machine with windows xp.
Can you tell me what purpose this statement has or how it will help me?
What is wrong with gOS? I was under the impression it was a version of Ubuntu. Why would you drop it?
Linux = Free as in Freedom.
Walmart = Cheap as in make less money so you can get Medicaid. (

I believe you said post opinions, and asked for no specific help solving any problems. What is it you want to know?
gOS has a familiar looking dock at the bottom of the screen:).
From the little I've seen, gOS is Ubuntu-based, stripped-down for an "average user"...whatever that is. I suspect it means things like developer tools aren't part of the default install.
While I approve of Via processors, the PC is very bland compared to some of the nice mini-itx cases out there. And Everex's quote of "averages 2 watts of power consumption" I find dubious. An average hard drive alone will pull around 5 to 9 watts at idle (source).
gOS offers a CD downloadable through BitTorrent.
Also they sell the motherboard by itself for $59. It seems like a nice board with 2 PCI slots. While it's not bad, I just bought a Duron 1600/motherboard/512MB RAM for $50 so I'm not in the market for one right now.
