Linux on a floppy

AFAIK there are -no- single-floppy distros for the Mac, and I would suspect that Mac hardware/rom issues would make it nigh impossible.

On the PC side, Freesco is one of the best. I've played around with it as a router and ethernet bridge and it's the easiest I've used. (www.freesco.org).

Freesco will run on a 386, so head to the nearest dumpster and grab a computer and a couple ISA NICs, and you're in business.

Googling just like your post topic says: Linux on a Floppy gives bunches of good hits, though some links to developers/distro site are old on alot of site, further Googling would solve that.

You can use PicoBSD, although it's not really a Linux system and not really only on one floppy.

I use tomsrtbt to maintain my Linux machines; it's a single-floppy repair-only distro.

There are also other single- and multi-floppy distributions; some even include lame versions of X, but I definitely don't suggest those. Go buy a CDROM

Try floppix ,I think it's called so.Check Google directories ,go to Computers\Software\Operating systems\Linux\Distributions\Tiny\Floppy sized. Five years ago I used one with X on two floppies on my 486 Acer laptop it was very c00l ,but I have broken my laptop while trying to solder a bigger speaker on the motherboard for better sound quality with the Win 3.1 speaker sound driver (The sad thing is that I discovered Covox schematics only few months later ,which is a way giving a way better sound that the PCSpeaker) so in the directories of google you'll find links to thousands of floppy distros.

It runs from a floppy, has GPG and vi.

Devil Linux, while not floppy-based, is a CD-based linux router that offers the same level of security (ie - write protected media) as the floppy-based linuxeseses (linii?);)
Configurations are stored on a floppy, which can be write-protected once set.
