Palm M125 Boot Problem

Howdy,

Earlier this week, I was venturing past a pawn shop and decided to go in. In the display case I saw a Palm m125 laying there for $10 with a sticker saying "broken". So I purchased it and left the store. I got back to my office, put some batteries in and - to my amazement - it powered on. I'm having a small problem, however. Whenever I start it up, it flashes the "Palm Powered" logo and then it asks me if I want to erase all my files. I get two options (naturally) Yes & No. If I select either yes or no, it flashes the "Palm Powered" logo once again and then shuts off a second or two later. In order to get it to start again I have to hit the reset button on the back. It has a brand new set of Duracell's in it, so I'm doubtful it's the battery. Unfortunately, I don't have the hotsync cradle for this device. This is my first PDA (being a student on a strict budget) and I'd mainly use it for quick notes to myself (shopping lists) and playing games (to kill time on the train).

I realize that I picked this thing up knowing it was broken, but I just wanted to ask to see if anyone here on AF could possibly help me out.

As always, any and all help is much appreciated!

Coupla things

The M125 can suffer from "Mad Digitizer Syndrome" which can throw off the digitizer's accuracy, and possibly give false clicks on screen. Palm has an update for that available.

Your buttons might be stuck down. The M125 is fairly easy to disassemble.

I encountered this problem with one unit that had a bad digitizer. The problem was sometimes remedied by shifting the position of the LCD slightly. It rides on four solder blobs on the logic board that ground it.

Hope something in there solves your problem.

Do a hard reset. Hold down the power button, then press the reset and then release the power button. Next press the up button to erase all data. If that doesn't fix it...the palm is pritty screwed.

Second option...palm has damaged os. Put the palm into debug mode and reflash it...

Edit: You cant reflash that palm Sad I hope the hard reset works...though it looks douptful...sorry.

Not as of yet

I haven't had much luck at all with the thing as of yet.

That said, I don't have a cradle for it. A friend of mine has said that putting it in the cradle and forcing a hotsync *MIGHT* force it into working, although it's a long shot at this point.

Oh well, it's not a big deal. I spent $10CDN (~$7.00 - $7.50USD) on the unit, and I was told upfront that the machine was "broken".

Cheers,

Sounds like bad dram. When I had my tungsten E apart I accidently shorted some pins and it went into the reset loop your describe.

A hard reset fixed it though.

My m515 also did it...but removing the battery and the screen conncector, then replacing the screen protector and then the battery fixed it.

Hmm...

Sounds interesting. I will have to try that trick of taking it apart and reseating everything. I just have not had much time, and, well, I'm having a bit of an issue finding a T5 (IIRC) to take it apart.

Cheers,

Best place to get the drivers

Best place to get the drivers is ebay. I got a decent T5 and T6 for £2.00...so in america it should be even cheaper...
