Combo drive hack

I use an iMac with a dead optical drive. It's an iMac G3 so I use a
CD burner via FireWire. But it cannot read DVDs. My brother has a Combo drive salvaged from his iBook (2002) which can read DVDs. Is there a way I can build an enclosure for the Combo drive so it can connect to the still-living iMac via FireWire? Thanks.
