PowerBook G4 (1Ghz/867Mhz) display on a Powerbook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) laptop

I recently replace my dyeing display on an older powerbook with one from a newer but fried powerbook...

and it actually worked! sort of... the problem is that the native resolution of the powerbook is 1152x768, but the display wants 1280x854

So my question is: does anyone know of a workaround for this problem, I figured it might take a open firmware hack or maybe a replaced driver... I've been playing around with SwitchRes X but haven't figured out any thing yet.

Thanks for the help... I look forward to seeing what everyone thinks.

no idea, but

I'd be curious to see if it's possible as well. My thinking is that the earlier ATI chip doesn't know about the higher rez, and I seriously doubt you can reflash its ROM (EEPROM?) to get it to larn about it.

You could just use it as is, it does look kinda cool, doesn't it? Biggrin If you can't get it to work and you can't stand its appearance, I could be convinced to swap ye for a non-DVI model LCD . . .

Biggrin

Search MacAch . . .

. . . over on ArsTechnica. If it's not on xlr8yourmac and anybody has info on doing something like that, it'll be over there . . . from what I've seen, anyway.
