I recently installed Peanut Linux 7.3 on my laptop (IBM Thinkpad 760CD) ,but it's nightmare to get Xfree86 running .I google so much but didn't find nothing about it.The graphic chip is Trident 9320. The screen is 12,1" 16-bit color 800x600 TFT.It ran only one time with 640x480 with 16 colors (bliaaa 
I just cant watch it).Does someone of you had ever installed linux on laptop like this.I'll really be happy if someone send me a ready working xf86config file for it.

Have you ried running it with any of the non-accellerated drivers? VGA/XGA/VESA? If you can at least get basic support for it through VESA modes life would be better...
EDIT: And it's always a good idea to search for related models and such of the same series: Linux on a 760C
With the generic drivers it works only on 640x480 (sometimes the screen makes hi-pitch noise and Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't shut down the server the laptop crashes and the shut down is possible only with the "emergency" shutdown switch on back side).I tried all the XF86Config files I could find on the net ,but they all didn't worked (most of them gave error in Section "Files") the XFree86 is 3.3.5 ,shall I update it .And how.
Now the X starts in 800x600 (after rewritten the XF86Config file by hand ,something was happened to it it was full only with dots) ,but there's something wrong with the modes - the only one working is 800x600 @ 72 Hz but when I start the server with it the screen looks like a lot of repeating segments ,and when the mouse gets in one of them I have then about 20 cursors on screen. I think it's timing problem .Can someone write me the correct modeline for 800x600@72 on the TFT Screen of my laptop ?
You might try 800x600x60.
No ,it only works on 72 Hz. On 60 or smaller the screen remains blank after starting the server.And Ctrl Alt and Bspc doesnt help - only Ctrl Alt and Del.
Try lowering the number of colors it's displaying. i.e. - If it's set to 24 bit color, lower it to 16 bit color.
It is set to 8-bit color.
It works fine with 640x480 on 8-bit ,but I want 800x600 at 16 bit color.

OK, if it's set to 8 bit at the moment, have you tried 16 bit? Also, which version of XFree86 is it running?
I'm running Xfree86 3.3.5 !I am new to linux and don't know how to update it to 4.With 16-bit color it doesn't want to start.Gives me No screens error.
I honestly don't know enough about Peanut Linux to be able to tell you. And I can't look at their site for more than 2 minutes at a time without getting a headache. Personally, I would try a different distro. Being a newb, You might want to try Libranet, or SuSE. Maybe Fedora. If you're feeling really daring, you could try Debian or one of the BSDs. I don't know how well the BSDs work on laptops from experience, though.
Yes ,I'll maybe try Debian I have disks of it.I am also impressed of SuSE.Maybe I'll order Suse tomorrow.I need compact distro ,because I have only 1.2Gb HDD and I need Windows 98SE also installed.
Then Debian would probably be a good choice. You can do a minimal install and then add things as you see fit. The other distros tend to need quite a bit of room.
I installed Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 yesterday. The manual says 400Mb + X and most programs.I ****** up things abit and now I don't have X but today I'll add it.
If you end up having problems with it, try Libranet. It's based upon Debian, but the install process and the administration of it are quite a bit easier.
That being said, it doesn't hurt to have some background in Debian it's tools (i.e. - apt-get) in case things go bad.
