geethree PS/2 to ADB adapter on IIgs?

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has tried tried the geethree PS/2 to ADB adapter on a IIgs with an optical PS/2 mouse. If so, did it work well and what brand/model of mouse did you use?

Thanks

I would take an educated guess and say that it would work because the adb bus was a standard. If I remember correctly I used the ADB optical mouse on my IIGS and it worked fine.

I've been keeping my geethree PS/2 to ADB adapter handy because I've been hoping to come across one of the USB to PS/2 adapters I'd had. Maybe I tossed all of them. Anyway I only have one PS/2 optical mouse, a no name Chinese one. Tried it and it worked but tracking was a little jerky. Maybe that mouse is that way with a PC too. I don't have a PC to plug it into.
A friend who I'm sure has some PS/2 optical mice will be by in the next week or so. I'll ask him to bring one with him.

It probably won't work. There were at least two revisions of ADB, and only the older gear will work with the GS. Example, Kensington Trackballs up to rev 5 work, but after that, they only 'sorta' work with jerky response. Try an Apple Ergonomic KB on a IIGS and watch weird things happen.

Well that's disappointing. Maybe someday a nice USB to IIGS host card will come out, allowing the use of optical mice.

An interesting thought...

Logitech makes a wireless mouse (X650) that uses a USB connect antenna.

Rich Dreher makes the CFFA 3000, which has a USB connector).

Now wouldn't it be nice if you could plug the USB antenna from the X650 into the USB socket for the 3000 and the mouse would work?

Yes. The cicuitry is probably all wrong for what I am thinking, but is it really that far fetched? Hmmm? Smile

It's just a matter of driver software. The electrical interface is there, but on the host end (on the USB card, or on the computer) there needs to be software enough to understand the class of USB device that is plugged in, what to do with its data, and when.

I found a USB tp PS/2 adapter to connect to the GeeThree adapter on the IIgs. I tried Apple Pro mice, mighty mouse and a couple of puck mice as well as a Logitech cordless Wheel Mouse and a Kensington Turbo Mouse Pro Wireless model 64240 with no luck. However some other mice did work though not with overly smooth tracking. They were The Mouse by MacMice, Logitech Wheel Mouse and a Microsoft mouse. These were all optical mice

I'm not hearing a no Smile

So that's a good sign. Dave Lyons says on the CFFA3000 forums that LUFA USB doesn't support USB hubs, as I'm sure you are aware. So I'm assuming that would also need to be resolved.
