Hello Apple Fritter!
I have been wondering about something.
I have recently given my iPod touch 3rd generation away, as I thought I would have no need for it once the next generation of iPad is released. Then, it hit me. Do I really want to carry around an iPad when I want to listen to music on the go? Absolutely not!
So, I thought about getting a cheap iPod mini. I was wondering if it would work with iTunes when I upgrade to lion.
Here's the iPod with the specs and stuff if that will help http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Apple-iPod-Mini-1st-Gen-4-GB-4GB-MP3-Player-Green-/380330885888?pt=Other_MP3_Players&hash=item588d7cc300#ht_1636wt_812
Thanks guys!
You can plug any iPod into your mac running Lion and iTunes will recognize it without any problems. I have an iMac running Lion and a 1st gen Shuffle, 1st gen mini, 3rd gen iPod (the one with the lit up buttons above the scroll wheel), a 4th gen iPod photo and a 2nd gen iPod touch. I recently sold my 1st Generation iPod (the first version ever). All of these worked without a hitch on iTunes 10.5.3 and OS X Lion. Even the 1st gen iPod Firewire one.

That's good to know!
have any of you here used a mini, and would you recommend it?
You'd be better off with a Nano, since they use flash memory. The Microdrives in the mini are a bit fragile.
The only reason I'd get a mini instead of the nano is that you can remove the microdrive and insert a high capacity flash card.
EDIT: Here's the flash card that can be used in a mini: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CompactFlash
I have a 1st gen iPod mini with a 16GB SanDisk Ultra CF card and a Newertech battery. Its awesome. I call it the SuperMini. And it works great with any recent version of iTunes. You can use any iPod with a later version of iTunes, just not an earlier version of iTunes. For example, you can use a 1G iPod from 2001 with the latest version of iTunes. So long as your machine has a FireWire port for you to plug it into, it will literally just work. However you can't use say, an iPod nano with iTunes 4.5.
I only never used to use a mini cos the storage was so small ... apart from that they were great. And nice and vintage now!
