2704 / 2708 EPROM reader / programmer kit :)

Hi there,

We was in need to read a 2708 EPROM from some of our historical pieces at our "Museo dell'Informatica Funzionante" Computer Museum; any normal EPROM reader can't read or program those EPROM, and the professional EPROM burner are very expensive.

So we created this reader using a PIC and a bit of software Smile

Here it is under GNU Free Software License! (Schematics, PCB layout, PIC firmware and Python software):

Happy EPROM reading! ^_^

Awesome I was just getting ready to look for one of these. I need to program a couple of 2708s for my Altair so this is perfect timing. Now I just have to learn Italian to read the directions Wink

Cheers,
Corey

There is the english version of that post, just select the language from the menu at right (hope it works!). Anyway the english version is here:

hope it works - we just added language support to our site so we're just hacking it Smile

I can read it now, thanks!!!!

so you haven't finished the "burning" a prom part only the reading. Please keep us in the loop when you do get that part working. That is the function I need to burn a monitor EPROM for my Altair.

Thanks,
Corey

Re: 2704 / 2708 EPROM reader / programmer kit :)

Hello together,

i didn´t realize that to be such a problem, because most of the "old-fashioned" eprom programmer cards out of the apple II series can do the task of programming and reading of 2716 and 2708 eproms....

i have one from the german company Springmann .... together with the software in Applesoft....
anyhow.... it seems i will add this to the tasks on my "todo-list" and make within the next 2 weeks or so a documentation of that card ( including the shematic circuitplan ) and upload the disk-image to asimov.....

The different kinds of eproms requested a eprom specific plug on a so called "selection socket".....
you can take a look to that card allready at:
http://www.harrowalsh.de/Elektronik/APPLEBOX/appleboxdownload.htm
its the second card in the list of special cards on that page....
the new page about the programmer ( not finished yet ! ) will be located at:
http://www.harrowalsh.de/Elektronik/APPLEBOX/appleboxSpringmannPage.htm
at the moment the page only contains some basic information... i will have to reengineer that card to add the
circuitplan .... but i have allready completed the parts on the card and made a link to the german manual ( which
i will of course translate to english too... ) and i must create a .DSK image of the software and i also must
create a PCB-film of the card... ) .... but you can get at least already now a impression of the card....

EDITED UPDATE: The basic pictures have been made and i´m at least complete with the traces of the card.
Partialy the circuitplan ( in separated parts ) has been started - but yet not commented that far... just few
initial comments inserted.... feedback is welcome....

I´ll pickup this task as soon as i am finished with the 4th page on my series about adjusting the DISK II drives, which i intend to complete this week ( i just need some time to make the pictures off from the scope and comment them... ) that 4th page....

and the page to be complated is at:

sincerely

Hello asbesto,

after all, if you want to build the mimeo as announced, and you are still hunting for a epromprogrammer you should probably follow up the thread:
http://www.applefritter.com/content/interest-3-expansion-cards-fot-mimeoapple1#comment-65516
and there follow to the parts related to the ROMcard, because it will be designed for also beeing used as programmer.
