Apple II Monitor Testing

I would like to know if there are any video formats I should avoid when testing an Apple Monitor //.
Specifically, I would like to know if it is safe to test a Monitor // with devices other than an Apple Computer (e.g. a VCR).
While optimally I would prefer to test it with an Apple computer, I ask this question for a circumstance where that is not possible, such as if I find one at a thrift store.

I would also like to expand this question to include the other Apple monitors used with the Apple II series, but the Monitor // is my main interest.

Any information would be appreciated.

I don't think you'll hurt the monitor, but it might be hard to find things that output composite analog video these days...

Re: Apple II Monitor Testing

There are many things that will give you composite video output.

A tv game, several output wires for phones to display composite video from Netflix and Youtube, older dvd players and cable boxes.

I also don't think that such output devices would hurt apple monitors with composite input but you will not get the image quality from composite that you can get from a modern device.

It will work fine as a composite display from a TV, VCR. etc. I did it before.

Re: Apple II Monitor Testing

Thanks for the answers; it's good to know that I can safely test a monitor without an Apple.
