Wallstreet not powering up :-(

Hello everyone,

After not having used my Wallstreet for quite some time, I decided to give it to my father. I wanted to clean off the drive, so I took it out of its bag, and plugged it in. The green LED came on and the fan powered up, but when I hit the power button, nothing happened. The LED stayed on and the fan also stayed on. This isn't typical. Usuaully, the LED and fan turned off after a few seconds, and then when I hit the power button, the computer starts normally. So, I removed the power cord, and the fan stopped and the LED turned off. When I plugged it in again, nothing happened at all. After waiting for a few hours, I tried again, and the very same thing happened. Fan and LED turn on, stay on..hitting power switch does nothing. Remove power cord, fan and LED turn off. Plug it back in, nothing happens. I've tried everything I can think of including trying two other power adapters(the battery is completely dead.) In case this information is important, its the 300 mhz model. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem? Thanks everyone!

mebbe PRAM batt is flat...

to remedy, take out the main battery, plug in the PS and let it recharge the PRAM battery for 48 hours. Then try booting it again.

Oh yeah, reset the Power Manager as well. IIRC the directions are inside the rear port flappy. Heh heh, actually, you might want to try that first.

You might want to try what da

You might want to try what dankephoto said. It might solve the problem. I hate to break it to you, but I had a WS/300 as well and while resetting the PRAM solved to problem, I had to mess with it and install a new battery (argh) to get it working properly, and then still it didn't quite work right. I got rid of it to a dealer.

That's three machines already

That's three machines already. All three have the same symptoms, and the same model (300MHz). Well. I always thought these Wallstreets could be improved...I don't own mine anymore though. Saving up for a TiBook Acute

Thanks everyone...

Hello,

I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and advice. I let the machine sit for a while, plugged it back in and away it went. So, everything has been working fine for a few days now. Not exactly sure what the problem was, but os long as it stays way, this old beast is being given to my father. Thanks again everyone!

backlight is dead

My machine goes in and out of sleep when I want it to, but the backlight is dead, aka, if i put it under a bright light i can see the things on the screen. Any ideas how to clear this up? I'll be booting into OS9 next.
