Apple II raised power light

I'm looking for the raised power light "keycap" for the Apple II computers with the very early keyboards. Anyone have a spare to sell?

This is what we call a "unicorn" item. They only exist in legends on their own. Your best bet will be to watch for keyboard sales on eBay because I think you'll have to buy a whole keyboard, which would give you plenty of spare datanetics switches for the future to replace any that go bad and aren't recoverable. The last one I noticed with a raised power indicator, if memory severs correct, was about $450 plus shipping.

Yes, I'm aware of how rare they are. It's actually just the white top of the key missing, but if no spares exists I guess I eventually have to buy a complete keyboard.
So I'm interested in buying a complete (early type) keyboard too, and it doesn't even have to work.

Jepple,

" In accordance with the Law; thou shalt forfeit thy First Born Male Child,
Two Breeding Horses, A Ewe, and two and one third Virgins."

"Thou shalt dance around the Maypole whilst chanting verse from old Monty Python shows"

"Thou shalt then; as a final act of penance, sit in Steve Jobs garage for Five Days chanting 'AWOZ...AWOZ...AWOZ'
subsisting on only small slices of bread and a little water."

"In this way, Thou may appease the Original Apple II Keyboard Gods and have your wish."

"So sayeth the Law."

Either that or spend lots of money. LOL

Or for about $5000 you can have tooling made in order to make new ones.

Mike,

Yes, but that is a lot more money than sitting in Steve Jobs garage for Five Days chanting 'AWOZ...AWOZ...AWOZ'.

LOL

Hi Jesper
This has the raised power light:

You probably have to buy the entire machine though.
A Little expensive for a power light cap Smile

Re: Apple II raised power light

Well, even if I get an Apple II with it 4000€ seems a little high!
From your answers I do get this piece of plastic is worth its weight in gold. But you have a point...there are some early II+ which also got the raised power light keyboard. However, it just doesn't feel right to tear it from a an early II+ keyboard even if it's going to a rev0 Apple II. Maybe a worst-case scenario.

Jepple,

I know we're having a little fun with you, but I also
know that this is a serious issue.

The raised Light caps are extremely hard to come by.
You basically must by an Original Apple II to get one.

Like you, I have seen (although very few) of the II + units with the raised light cap.

Yea verily...'tis a pain.

Re: Apple II raised power light

Well, I actually saw one on eBay (just the keycap, not anything else) a while back. Think it was this year. However, I didn't need one at that point although I did bid something just to have a spare for my other original II, but didn't win.
That's why I thought there might be more spares out there but it seems this was an odd occasion then. Anyway...if anyone would have a spare to sell I'm aware I won't get it for free...
And to be honest...I kind of enjoy the "detective work" needed to complete these early machines. At least when there's a happy ending!
